In 1869, the first carpet-cleaning machine was introduced to the public. Ives Mcgaffey invented it and termed it the " sweeping machine. " Hubert Cecil Booth, who had a British patent for carpet-cleaning machines, came out with a pretty large horse-drawn, gas-driven machine not long after that, in 1901. This was frequently seen parked outside of cleaning establishments, with the hose being pushed through the windows of the building to the carpet to be cleaned. The machines were eventually made smaller and easier to use. Moving these massive devices from one firm to another would necessitate an entire army of employees.
